Bo Eason’s powerful solo play RUNT OF THE LITTER, written and performed by Eason and
directed by Larry Moss, is soon to be a major motion picture. It tells a compelling story
of family dynamics and success against great odds. Initially told he was too small to
play football, Eason stuck to his 20-year plan, and his determination and effort led to
a successful collegiate and professional career as safety with the NFL’s Houston Oilers.
RUNT OF THE LITTER is, in fact, a semi-autobiographical account of Bo Eason’s career as a
safety for the Houston Oilers in the 1980s. His determination and killer instincts on the
playing field remain the stuff of legend. His brother, Tony Eason was the quarterback who
led the New England Patriots to the Super Bowl in 1986.
Leonardo DiCaprio sought out Bo to write a screenplay for him after seeing a performance of
RUNT. DiCaprio is just one of many notable people who have seen Bo’s play and been moved by
it: celebrities such as Philip Seymour Hoffman, Tobey Maguire, Orlando Bloom, James Franco,
Mariska Hargitay, Rosie O’Donnell, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis, Sandra Oh, Amanda Peet,
Maria Bello and Carla Gugino. Football stars like Warren Moon, Bruce Matthews and Jason
Seahorn have praised the work and Bo Eason’s performance.
“Runt of the Litter is not only the best one-person show I’ve ever seen, it’s also that rare
theatrical experience that leaves the audience wanting to see it again, and bring all their
friends along,” proclaims Nytheatre.com. The New York Times compares the production to “Death
of a Salesman with Biff and Happy played by Cain and Abel,” and the Newark Star-Ledger raves
“Thoughtful, ferocious and riveting! Whether you love football or actually care little for
the game, Eason’s play grabs your interest as human drama and never lets go.”
RUNT debuted in New York in 2002 and returned in 2007. The play has subsequently been
performed by Bo Eason at theatres around the country.
